ครานี้นำใบสมัครเป็นสมาชิกของสังฆาฏมหานรกมาให้ท่านทั้งหลายได้พิจารณาดูว่า สนใจจะสมัครเป็นสมาชิกของมหานรกขุมนี้กันบ้างหรือเปล่า
สังฆาฏมหานรก หมายถึง มหานรกที่ถูกภูเขาเหล็กบดขยี้ร่างกาย นรกขุมนี้ เป็นนรกขุมที่ 3 อยู่ถัดลงมาจากกาฬสุตตมหานรก มีขนาดใหญ่กว่ากาฬสุตตมหานรก มีภูเขาเหล็กสูงใหญ่ ลุกโพลงด้วยไฟกรด กลิ้งบดทับเหล่าสัตว์นรกให้ละเอียดเป็นเศษเนื้อและเศษกระดูก
เป็นมหานรกที่มีเอาไว้ให้บริการแก่ผู้ชื่นชอบประพฤติผิดในกาม เช่น เป็นชู้ต่อลูกเมียหรือผัวเขา เป็นผู้มักมากในกามคุณ ไม่มีหิริ ความละอาย ไร้โอตตัปปะความเกรงกลัวต่อบาป เป็นผู้หน้าด้าน เก้อยาก ตกเป็นทาสของตัณหา ความทะยานอยากไม่รู้จักเบื่อ
สัตว์ในสังฆาฏมหานรกนี้มีร่างกายพิกลพิการต่างๆ และมีรูปร่างผิดแปลก เป็นส่วนผสมของมนุษย์และสัตว์ เช่น บางตนมีหัวเป็นควาย มีตัวเป็นคน บางตนมีหัวเป็นคน มีตัวเป็นควาย บางตัวมีหัวเป็นหมา หมู เป็ด ไก่ แต่มีตัวเป็นคน บางพวกมีอวัยวะส่วนใดส่วนหนึ่งใหญ่มากกว่าลำตัว มีความวิปริตของร่างกายพิกลสุดที่จะพรรณนาให้หมดสิ้นได้
สังฆาฏมหานรกขุมนี้ แม้จักกว้างใหญ่มหาศาลสักปานใด แต่ก็แออัดเบียดเสียด หนาแน่นไปด้วยสัตว์นรกที่ยื้อแย่งที่อยู่อาศัยกันและกันโดยมีนายนิรยบาล ผู้มีร่างกายกำยำใหญ่โต ตาเหลือกถลนแดงดังแสงไฟนรก ริมฝีปากกว้างหนาประหนึ่งว่า สามารถกัดกินฝูงสัตว์นรกทุกตนได้ ถือมีดพร้าขนาดใหญ่และหอกแหลนหลาวศัสตราวุธเที่ยวเดินไล่ทิ่มแทงฝูงสัตว์นรก แล้วร้องคำรามว่า กูจะฆ่ามึง กูจะฆ่ามึง กูจะฆ่ามึง สัตว์นรกได้ยินเสียงนั้นต่างพาวิ่งหนีอย่างไม่คิดชีวิต จึงพากันชนกันล้มลุกคลุกคลาน เหยียบย่ำกันดุจดังฝูงวัวควายวิ่งเหยียบพื้นหญ้า
ด้วยอำนาจกรรมบันดาลทำให้เกิดกองไฟกองใหญ่ขวางหน้าสัตว์นรกนั้นไว้มิให้หนี พอจะหันหลังวิ่งหนีกองไฟนั้นกลับต้องมาก็เจอไฟอีกกองหนึ่งสกัดหน้า ไม่ว่าจะหันไปทางไหนก็มีกองไฟปรากฏเกิดขึ้น เผาลนไหม้สัตว์นรกเหล่านั้นให้ได้รับทุกขเวทนาแสนสาหัส ไฟนรกนี้ร้อนแรงกว่าไฟในโลกมนุษย์มากมายเป็นแสนเท่านัก แม้จะถูกไฟเผาไหม้แล้วสัตว์นรกนั้นก็ไม่ได้ตายง่ายๆ
กาลต่อมาก็จักมีภูเขาเหล็กที่มีไฟนรกเผาจนแดงฉาน ๒ ลูก กลิ้งมาบดขยี้ร่างกายของสัตว์นรกนั้นให้แหลกราญ เปรียบเหมือนเครื่องหีบอ้อยที่บดอัดอ้อยให้แหลกละเอียดฉะนั้น
ครั้นเมื่อตายลงก็จักบังเกิดลมชีวะกรรมพัดกระหน่ำร่างกายให้พลิกฟื้นคืนชีวิตขึ้นมา และก็พากันวิ่งหนีการรุกไล่บดขยี้ของนายนิรยบาล และไฟกรดอยู่เช่นนี้จนกว่าจะสิ้นกรรม
เมื่อเวลา ๑ วัน ๑ คืนของสังฆาฏมหานรกเทียบกับเวลาในมนุษยโลกแล้ว เท่ากับ ๑๔๔ ล้านปีของมนุษยโลก
สัตว์บางตนก็ได้สิทธิ์เป็นสมาชิกของสังฆาฏมหานรกแค่ชั่ววันกับคืบหนึ่ง บางตนก็เป็นสมาชิกได้ ๕ วัน ๕ คืนนรก ๑๐ วันนรก หรือ ๑๐๐ วันนรก แต่ส่วนใหญ่จักไม่เกิน ๑ ปีนรก
ที่เป็นเช่นนี้ก็เพราะเป็นไปตามอารมณ์กามคุณที่เกิดขึ้นในแต่ละครั้งที่ผิดศีล หากสัตว์ตนใดเป็นผู้มักมาก ละเมิดศีลอยู่ต่อเนื่องยาวนาน ก็จักมีโอกาศเป็นสมาชิกของนรกขุมนี้ได้ยาวนาน
ลูกรัก หากเจ้าไม่อยากเป็นสมาชิกของนรกขุมนี้ ก็ต้องสำรวม สังวร ระวังกายใจ มีสติตั้งมั่น หมั่นเพียรภาวนาถึงมรณานุสติกรรมฐาน ปฏิกูลสัญญา กายคตานุสสติกรรมฐาน อสุภกรรมฐาน กรรมฐานเหล่านี้คือคาถาวิเศษที่จักช่วยป้องกันมิให้สังฆาฏมหานรกมากล้ำกรายเจ้าได้

This time, I have brought you an application for membership in Sangkhata Hell for your consideration. Who among you is interested in joining?
Sangkhata Hell is the Great Hell where bodies are crushed beneath mountains of iron. It is the third hell, located below Kalasutta Great Hell, and it is even larger in size. Within it stands a towering mountain of iron, blazing with acid fire, which crushes the creatures of hell into tiny fragments of flesh and bone.
This great hell is reserved for those who commit sexual misconduct, such as adultery with the spouses of others. They are greedy for sensual pleasures, devoid of shame and fear of sin. They are shameless and enslaved to lust, consumed by insatiable desire.
The creatures of Sangkhata Great Hell suffer from grotesque deformities and strange appearances, often a fusion of human and animal. For example, some have the head of a buffalo with a human body. Others have a human head with the body of a buffalo. Some bear the head of a dog, pig, duck, or chicken on a human body. Some have an organ larger than their entire body. Their deformities are beyond description.
Despite its vastness, Sangkhata Great Hell is overcrowded, swarming with hell-beings struggling for shelter. The warden of this hell, with a massive, muscular body, bulging eyes red as hellfire, and wide, thick lips as if ready to devour an entire herd of beings, carries a large machete and a spear. He prowls through the masses, hacking and slashing while roaring, “I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!” Terrified, the hell-beings scatter in panic, colliding with one another, falling, and trampling each other like cattle and buffalo crushing grass underfoot.
Through the power of karma, a great fire rises, blocking their escape. Whenever they attempt to flee, another fire appears, cutting off their path. No matter where they turn, flames erupt, scorching them with unbearable agony. This hellfire burns hundreds of thousands of times hotter than any fire in the human world. Yet even when consumed by the flames, they do not die easily.
In time, two massive iron mountains, engulfed in fire, roll down and crush the creatures, grinding their bodies into pieces. It is like a sugarcane press crushing stalks of cane.
When death comes, the wind of life blows again, reviving their bodies. They are forced to run once more, only to face the attacks of the wardens and the torment of the acid fire, until their karma is fully exhausted.
One day and one night in Sangkhata Hell is equal to 144 million human years.
Some beings remain in Sangkhata Hell for only a day and a cubit. Others for five days and five nights, ten days, or even a hundred. Yet most remain less than a year.
This duration is determined by the force of sensual desire arising each time the precepts are broken. If a being is greedy and repeatedly violates the precepts, it will suffer severe injuries and remain in this hell for a long time.
My dearest children, if you do not wish to become members of this hell, you must restrain yourselves, be mindful, and guard both body and mind. Cultivate firm mindfulness and diligently practice contemplation of death, contemplation of loathsomeness, contemplation of the decaying and unattractive nature of the human body, and contemplation of the corpse. These meditations are like protective mantras, shielding you from the vast suffering of Sangkhata Hell.
