วันสงกรานต์ปีนี้ แม้สถานการณ์แพร่ระบาดของโควิดกลับมาระบาดอีกรอบ
การเฉลิมฉลองที่เกิดขึ้นในเทศกาลวันสงกรานต์ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการไปวัดทำบุญใส่บาตร รักษาศีล ทำบุญอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้แก่ญาติผู้วายชน แผ่เมตตา สรงน้ำพระ รดน้ำผู้ใหญ่
กิจกรรมดังกล่าวนี้ถือปฏิบัติกันจนเป็นประเพณี วัฒนธรรมอันงดงาม ที่ผูกรวมผู้คนในสังคม ให้อยู่ร่วมกันด้วยความสมัครสมานเป็นหนึ่งเดียว
แต่นับตั้งแต่เกิดปัญหาโควิดระบาด ความงดงามดังกล่าวมันตกหล่นหดหายไปจากสังคมไทย ด้วยข้อจำกัดของการรักษาระยะห่าง เพื่อป้องกันการแพร่เชื้อของโควิด ทั้งยังต้องใส่หน้ากากอนามัย ล้างมือบ่อยๆ และต้องระมัดระวัง ไม่ให้ไปรับเชื้อจากผู้อื่น และห้ามเล่นน้ำสงกรานต์
เหตุผลดังกล่าว มันกลับมาทำลายบรรยากาศของการเฉลิมฉลองในทุกเทศกาลของสังคมไทยไปอย่างสิ้นเชิง
พวกเด็กๆ และคนรุ่นใหม่จึงเลือกที่จะหลบไปเฉลิมฉลองกันเองตามสถานบันเทิงเริงรมย์ต่างๆ และตามห้องเช่าขนาดใหญ่
จึงเป็นเหตุให้โควิดแพร่เชื้อได้อย่างรวดเร็ว ดังที่เกิดขึ้นในปัจจุบัน เลยทำให้คนทุกเพศ ทุกวัย ที่ไม่รู้อีโหน่อีเหน่ พลอยต้องรับผล สุดจะบรรยาย ดังที่กำลังเกิดขึ้น
ที่เขียนเช่นนี้ไม่ได้ต้องการจะไปโทษใครว่าผิด แต่ต้องการชี้ให้เห็นถึงต้นตอของปัญหา ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นในขณะนี้ แล้วมาช่วยกันคิดหาวิธี ปกป้องตนเอง ปกป้องลูกหลานของพวกเรา ไม่ให้ตกเป็นเหยื่อของอบายมุข จนนำเอาความทุกข์เดือดร้อนมายัดใส่ให้ทุกคนในประเทศ
แต่ไม่ว่าจะเกิดอะไร
ชีวิตต้องเดินต่อไป และต้องเดินอย่างมีสติปัญญา พร้อมสำนึกรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมส่วนรวม
แม้จะค่อนข้างหาได้ยากในยุคปัจจุบัน แต่ก็ต้องพยายามที่จะปลูกจิตสำนึกรับผิดชอบ
แม้จะไม่ง่าย แต่พวกเราก็ต้องพยายามด้วยตนเอง และถ่ายทอดความรับผิดชอบนี้ให้แก่ลูกหลานของพวกเรา ง่ายๆ ก็คือ บอกเขา สอนเขา ให้รู้จักคิดถึงผลกระทบที่จะเกิดขึ้นแก่ตน และคนอื่นทุกครั้งที่จะทำ พูด คิด
เหมือนที่พวกเราถูกสั่งสอนมาตั้งแต่บรรพบุรุษ เราจึงจะสามารถหยุดยั้งโรคร้าย ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นได้
สงกรานต์ปีนี้ ขอให้ทุกคนแคล้วคลาดปลอดภัย พ้นทุกข์ พ้นโศก พ้นโรค พ้นภัย พ้นเคราะห์ เสนียดจัญไร จักหายไปทันที

Wishing you safety and survival from all peril all year round, and during Songkran Festival

During Songkran Festival this year, COVID-19 pandemic has returned another round.
Celebration taking place during Songkran Festival, includes making merits at the temple, giving alms to monks, observing religious precepts, making merits and transferring merits to deceased relatives, extending loving kindness to all creatures, sprinkling scented water on Buddha Image, and pouring scented water
on the hands of revered elders and asking for blessing.
These activities are beautiful tradition and culture which have bound people in the society to live in harmony.
Since the pandemic, such beauty has been missing from the Thai society due to limitation of social distancing to prevent disease spread. People also have to wear surgical masks, regularly wash their hands, and be cautious not to be infected, and people are prohibited from splashing water during Songkran Festival.
These reasons have totally damaged celebration atmosphere in the Thai society.
Young people have chosen to celebrate among themselves in entertainment places and rental apartments.
This has caused rapid spread of the disease, as it is happening now. People of all genders and ages, who were not part of their activities, have received indescribable impact.
I am writing this not to blame anybody but to indicate the real cause of the problem which is happening. Then, we can help find solutions to protect ourselves and our children, not to fall victims of allurements, and cause sufferings and problems for everybody in this country.
No matter what has happened, life must continue. But we must continue with wisdom and social responsibility.
Even though it is quite hard to find nowadays, but we must put effort in promoting consciousness of responsibility.
Though it is not easy to do, but we must try ourselves and pass on this responsibility to our children. Simply, we should tell and teach them to think of impacts on themselves and other people every time they do, speak, and think.
The same way we have been taught in our old times so that we can stop the pandemic.
During this year’s Songkran Festival, I wish everybody stay safe, survive from suffering, misery, disease, peril, and misfortune, and wish all the evil disappear.
