พระต้องจน คนต้องรวย
คำว่า พระต้องจน หมายถึง พระต้องสันโดษ ยินดีในสิ่งที่พึงมีพึงได้ ไม่เป็นผู้มักมาก ทะยานอยากสะสม
คำว่า คนต้องรวย หมายถึง เกิดเป็นคนต้องขวนขวาย ขยันหมั่นเพียร แสวงหาสะสมปัจจัยสี่ให้มากมี
นี่เป็นพระวาจาที่องค์สมเด็จพระสังฆราชเจ้า กรมหลวงวชิรญาณสังวร ทรงตรัสแก่พุทธะอิสระ เมื่อคราวที่เข้าไปเฝ้าถวายรายงาน เรื่อง อบรมพระวิปัสสนาจารย์ ของคณะสงฆ์ในภาค ๑๔
สมเด็จพระสังฆราชเจ้า กรมหลวงวชิรญาณสังวร พระองค์ท่านมีพระราชจริยวัตรที่เป็นอยู่อย่างสมถะ ประหยัดสูงประโยชน์สุด
แม้จะมีผู้คนมากมายทูลถวายแก้ว แหวน เงิน ทอง แด่พระองค์ท่าน ก็ทรงสละเงินทองเหล่านั้นไปทำสาธารณประโยชน์ให้แก่ชาติ ประชาชนอย่างมากมาย เช่น
การสร้างตึกวชิรญาณวงศ์ ตึกวชิรญาณสามัคคีพยาบาร และตึก ภปร. โรงพยาบาลจุฬาลงกรณ์, โรงพยาบาลสมเด็จพระปิยมหาราชรมณียเขต จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี, โรงพยาบาลวัดญาณสังวราราม จังหวัดชลบุรี, และโรงพยาบาลสกลมหาสังฆปรินายก เพื่อถวายเป็นอนุสรณ์ แด่สมเด็จพระสังฆราชแห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ทุกพระองค์ รวม 19 แห่ง ได้เริ่มก่อสร้างไปแล้วหลายแห่ง

พระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์สมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราช ที่ดอนเจดีย์ ทรงสร้างพระมหาเจดีย์ศรีนครินทรมหาสันติคีรี ดอยแม่สลอง เและสงเคราะห์ผู้ตกทุกข์ได้ยาก
และทรงสละทรัพย์สร้างพระอารามได้แก่
วัดสันติคีรี ดอยแม่สลอง จังหวัดเชียงราย, วัดรัชดาภิเษก อำเภอบ่อพลอย จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี ,วัดล้านนาสังวราราม อำเภอจอมทอง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ,วัดพุมุด อำเภอไทรโยค กาญจนบุรี ,วัดญาณสังวราราม อำเภอบางละมุง จังหวัดชลบุรี
สมเด็จพระสังฆราชเจ้า กรมหลวงวชิรญาณสังวร พระองค์ท่านไม่ทรงสะสมทรัพย์สมบัติเหล่านั้นเอาไว้ส่วนพระองค์

Legendary speech of the Late 19th Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara of the Bowonniwet Vihara Temple

“Monks must be poor. Householders must be rich.”
Monks must be poor means monks must be contented with what they are supposed to have or get. They must neither be greedy nor desire to collect things.
Householders must be wealthy means humans must be diligent and try to collect the four requisites (food, clothing, medicine, residence).
It was the speech of His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Late Supreme Patriarch, that he spoke to Buddha Isara while I was visiting him to report the results of the Training for Vipassana Instructors of the Sangha Administration Region 14.
His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara lived a modest and frugal life. He utilized all resources economically.
A lot of people donated jewels, money, and gold to him.
He gave out that money and gold to public benefits such as the construction of the Vachirayarnwong Building and the Bhor Por Ror Building of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the Somdet Phra Piya Maharat Rommanikhet Hospital, Kanchanaburi Province, Wat Yansangwararam Hospital, Chonburi Province, and nineteen hospitals in commemoration of the nineteen supreme patriarchs of the Bangkok era, the construction of Somdejprayansungwon School, Yasothon Province, Somdejphrapiyamaharajrommaneeyakhet School, Kanchanaburi Province, the Royal Monument of King Naresuan the Great at Don Chedi, Phra Borommathat Chedi Sinagarindra Mahasanti Khiri at Doi Mae Salong and helping the underprivileged.
His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara also built the following temples Santikhiri Temple, Doi Mae Salong, Chiang Rai Province, Ratchadapisek Temple, Bo Phloi District, Kanchanaburi Province, Lanna Yanasangwararam Temple, Chom Thong District, Chiang Mai Province, Phut Wimut Wanaram Temple, Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province, Yansangwararam Temple, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.
His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara did not collect any personal assets.
His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara is the role model of an honorable, poor monk.
