ลูกรัก เจ้าจักสำคัญความนี้เป็นไฉน ? (ตอนที่ ๒๑)

มหานรกขุมใหญ่สุดทั้ง ๘ ขุม เราท่านทั้งหลายได้ทำความรู้จักกันไปในเบื้องต้นแล้ว
ครานี้ลูกก็ลองมาทำความรู้จักนรกบริวารของมหาสัญชีวนรกซึ่งมีบริวารขุมที่ ๑๓ ที่ชื่อว่า อุทธังปาทนรก กันดูบ้าง
อุทธังปาทนรก หมายถึง นรกจับหัวฝังดินแค่เอว โดยมีอวัยวะเพศลอยอยู่เหนือแผ่นดิน
ภูมิลักษณะของนรกขุมนี้ก็มีสภาพเหมือนบ้านเมืองแห่งโลกียวิสัย มีผู้คนอาศัยอยู่ด้วยวิถีชีวิตผู้มักมากในกามออกเดินเร่หาความสุขสำราญด้วยการเสพติดในกาม
แต่เมื่อใดสัตว์นรกเหล่านั้นได้ละเมิดในศีลข้อกาเม คือ การผิดลูกผิดเมีย ผิดผัวชาวบ้าน ก็จักปรากฎนายนิรยบาลมาลากเอาตัวไปยังสถานที่ลงทัณฑ์ ที่เต็มไปด้วยป่างิ้วหนามเหล็ก ซึ่งขึ้นเบียดเสียดกันหนาแน่น ดุจดังเครื่องหีบอ้อย หรือเครื่องบดปลาหมึกย่างฉะนั้น
แต่ตัวนายนิรยบาลเองกลับเดินผ่านไปได้โดยไม่มีอันตราย ส่วนสัตว์นรกนั้นเล่า กลับถูกฉุดกระชากลากลุยไปภายในต้นงิ้ว มีหนามเหล็กที่มีความแหลมคม ดุจดังมีดโกน ก็เกี่ยวตัด บาดเอาหนังและเนื้อของสัตว์นรกตนนั้นให้หลุดออกมาเป็นชิ้นๆ เลือดและของเหลวภายในกายก็ไหลโทรม
สัตว์นรกนั้นได้รับความเจ็บปวดสุดแสนจะทรมาน แต่ก็ไม่ตาย จนกระทั้งนายนิรยบาลได้ฉุดลากสัตว์นั้นมาถึงที่โล่ง ลานหินที่มีหลุมลึกแค่เอวเต็มไปหมด
อีกทั้งนายนิรยบาลจึงจักรวบจับขาทั้งสองข้างของสัตว์นรกตนนั้นชี้ขึ้นฟ้า แล้วนำหัวปักลงไปในหลุมหิน
หลุมหินนั้นด้วยอำนาจแห่งกรรมชั่วที่ได้กระทำไว้ในอดีต หลุมหินนั้นพลันเลื่อนเข้ามาบีบรัดร่างกายตั้งแต่หัวจรดสะดือของสัตว์นรกตนนั้นจนแน่นสนิท ดุจดังเสื้อผ้าที่กำลังนุ่งห่มอยู่ฉะนั้น โดยมีอวัยวะเพศและขาทั้งสองของสัตว์นั้นโผล่พ้นพื้นหิน ดิ้นรน ถีบอากาศอยู่ไหวไหว โดยไม่มีแม้แต่เสียงร้องใดๆ หลุดรอดออกมาจากหลุมเลย
กาลต่อมา นายนิรยบาลจึงนำเอาแท่นหินที่มีหนามแหลมดุจดังหนามทุเรียนอ่อน ทิ่มแทงเข้าไปในอวัยวะเพศของสัตว์นรกตนนั้น
อธิบายเพิ่มเติมว่า อุทธังปาทนรกขุมนี้ เมื่อสัตว์จักถูกจับลงทัณฑกรรม ก็จักแบ่งแยกกันชัดว่า แดนไหนเป็นชาย แดนไหนเป็นหญิง จะไม่ปะปนกัน
ที่อธิบายบรรยายมาแล้วนั้นเป็นแดนทัณฑกรรมของผู้หญิง ส่วนแดนทัณฑกรรมของฝ่ายชาย ก็มีลักษณะใกล้เคียงกัน จะแตกต่างกันตรงที่สัตว์เพศผู้จักถูกนายนิรยบาลใช้ค้อนเหล็กทุบลงไปที่อวัยวะเพศจนแหลกละเอียด
สัตว์นรกทั้งหญิงและชายแม้จักถูกทรมานอย่างหนักแสนสาหัสเพียงนี้ ก็ยังไม่ได้ยินเสียงร้องขอชีวิต ด้วยเพราะร่างกายส่วนหัวครึ่งตัวได้จมลงไปในแผ่นหินที่บีบรัดแน่นสนิท จึงไม่มีเสียงอะไรลอดออกมาจากหลุมนั้นได้เลย
ก็ได้แต่เห็นการดิ้นรนของสัตว์นรกด้วยการเอาตีนถีบอากาศไปมาอย่างรุนแรง จนกระทั่งเจ็บปวดหมดแรงตายไป
แล้วก็ย้อนกลับไปเกิดในบ้านในเมืองที่ตนมาใช้ชีวิตดังชนผู้มักมากในกามโดยปกติ หากเมื่อใดกระทำการละเมิดศีลข้อกาเม สัตว์นรกตนนั้นก็จักถูกนายนิรยบาลจับตัวมาลงทัณฑกรรมอีกเช่นเดิม
เป็นอยู่เช่นนี้จนกว่าจักหมดกรรมชั่วผิดบาปที่ได้เคยกระทำมา
ถามว่า ทำไมการเป็นชู้ นอกใจภรรยา หรือ นอกใจสามี มันถึงได้รับโทษทัณฑ์ อันรุนแรงเช่นนี้ ทั้งที่ทั้งหญิงและชายก็สมยอมกัน
อธิบายว่า ก็เพราะการกระทำของหญิงชั่ว ชายโฉด เป็นการละเมิดต่อความรัก ความไว้วางใจของคู่ชีวิตของตน อีกทั้งยังสร้างความทุกข์ยากให้แก่ครอบครัว และสร้างปัญหาให้แก่ผู้คนในครอบครัว เรียกว่า หาความสุขบนความทุกข์ของผู้อื่น
เว้นเสียแต่ว่า คู่สามีภรรยาต่างฝ่ายต่างยินยอมที่จักให้แต่ละฝ่ายไปมีคู่นอนใหม่ เช่นนั้นก็ไม่มีใครเดือดร้อน แต่ผู้ที่กระทำการเช่นนั้นก็จักเป็นผู้เดือดร้อนเสียเอง ด้วยเพราะจักเป็นผู้มีอุปนิสัยมักมากในกามคุณ จะตกอยู่ในวังวนแห่งความลุ่มหลง มัวเมา ประมาท จนมิอาจเรียนรู้สัจจะธรรมความจริงใดๆ ได้เลย
รวมทั้งขณะมีชีวิตอยู่ ก็จักไม่เป็นที่ยอมรับของใครๆ จักติดโรคภัยไข้เจ็บต่างๆ จากการมั่วสุม ซ่องเสพ จนนำพามาซึ่งความเจ็บป่วย และเกิดปัญหาทางสุขภาพกาย สุขภาพจิต สารพัดตามมา
เช่นนี้ชื่อว่า ทำร้ายตนเองไม่รักตนเอง เห็นผิดจากทำนองคลองธรรม
สำหรับคาถาที่จักทำให้ไม่ต้องมาเกิดในนรกขุมนี้คือ
อินทรีย์สังวร มีสติสำรวม สังวรระวังตา หู จมูก ลิ้น กาย ใจ มิให้ตกเป็นทาสของสิ่งที่เห็น ที่ฟัง ที่ดม ที่รับรส และที่สัมผัสทั้งทางกายและใจ
ศีลสังวร สำรวม สังวร ระวัง ในการรักษาศีลให้ตั้งมั่น บริสุทธิ์ บริบูรณ์
หรือไม่ก็หมั่นเจริญอสุภกรรมฐานอยู่เนืองนิตย์
ด้วยการปฏิบัติในคุณธรรมดังกล่าว จักทำให้หลุดพ้นจากอุทธังปาทนรก นรกฝังครึ่งตัวขุมนี้ได้ในที่สุด

We have already learned about the eight largest hells.
Now, let us explore the thirteenth satellite hell encircling the Maha Sanjiva Hell, known as Uddhang Pata Hell.
Uddhang Pata Hell means “the hell where beings are buried head-first up to the waist, with their genitals protruding above the ground.”
This hell appears like a worldly city filled with lustful beings who wander in search of sensual pleasures. But whenever they violate the precepts—such as committing adultery with another’s husband or wife—the hell wardens immediately seize the offenders and drag them away for punishment.
The punishment ground is a dense forest of iron-thorned fig trees, their spikes sharp like a sugarcane press or squid grinder. As the wardens pull the sinners through the forest, the razor-sharp thorns tear their skin and flesh to shreds. Blood and fluids flow endlessly —yet the wardens themselves pass through unharmed.
When the suffering beings are close to death, they are dragged to an open rocky field filled with deep, waist-high pits. There, the wardens lift the creature by the legs, point the feet skyward, and plunge the head downward into a pit. Instantly—driven by the force of their own karma—the pit clamps tightly around their body from head to navel, like a garment sealing shut. Only the legs and genitals remain above the stone surface, trembling and kicking helplessly, unable to utter a single sound.
Then the wardens bring out a stone platform studded with thorns like young durian spikes and use it to pierce the creature’s genitals.
The punishments of Uddhang Pata Hell are divided into separate realms for men and women, and the two groups never intermingle. The description above refers to the female realm. In the male realm, the torture is similar, except the wardens crush the men’s genitals with iron hammers.
Despite the unbearable agony, the buried creatures cannot cry out. With their heads sealed within stone, no sound can escape. They can only struggle until they are completely exhausted and die.
Then they are reborn in their former hometowns, once again living as ordinary lustful people. If they commit sexual misconduct again, they are captured and punished once more. This cycle repeats until the evil karma has been fully exhausted.
Why is adultery punished so severely, even when both parties consent?
Because such actions betray the trust of one’s spouse, destroy the harmony of families, and cause suffering to many. This is called seeking pleasure at the cost of others. Unless both spouses mutually agree to an open relationship, adultery inevitably brings harm to everyone involved, including the perpetrator—leading to a life of restless desire, heedlessness, and spiritual blindness.
Moreover, those who live in sexual misconduct often earn rejection by society, and may even suffer illnesses from reckless behavior, bringing both physical and mental torment. This is considered self-harm, a sign of lacking self-love, and behavior contrary to the Dhamma.
The practices that protect one from falling into Uddhang Pata Hell are:
• Restraint of the senses:
Guarding the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind so one does not become enslaved by sight, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, or thoughts.
• Mindfulness in maintaining one’s precepts:
Observing one’s precepts with mindfulness, vigilance, purity, and completeness.
• Or, habitually contemplate the gradual decay of the dead body to cool the fever of lust.
By cultivating these virtues, one becomes free from the karma that leads to Uddhang Pata Hell —the hell of the half-buried.
