นายภูมิธรรม เวชยชัย รองนายกรัฐมนตรี และรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงมหาดไทย ให้สัมภาษณ์กรณี นายทักษิณ ชินวัตร อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี ที่ถูกจำคุกในเรือนจำคลองเปรม ว่าหลัง จากนี้จะมีกรอบเวลาให้เข้าเยี่ยมได้ มีการพูดคุยกันหรือไม่ว่าใครจะเข้าไปเยี่ยมบ้าง ว่า ยังไม่ได้มีการพูดคุยกัน แต่ความรู้สึกส่วนตัว ตนต้องไปเยี่ยมนายทักษิณแน่นอน เพราะตนไม่ได้รู้สึกว่าท่านได้ทำอะไรผิดมาตั้งแต่ต้นทาง ตลอดจนถึงปัจจุบัน ถูกกระทำโดยอำนาจการจัดการ ในการเข้าสู่การเป็นรัฐบาลนอกระบบ เพราะฉะนั้นหลายสิ่งหลายอย่างที่ตั้งขึ้นมา รอวันพิสูจน์
นายภูมิธรรม กล่าวด้วยว่า ในสายตา ของตน นายทักษิณ เป็นนักสู้คนหนึ่ง และเมื่อวานเห็นภาพนายทักษิณ สวมชุดคอกลมสีฟ้า และดูเหมือนจะกล้อนผมด้วยก็สะเทือนใจ ตนคิดว่าท่านพิสูจน์ให้เห็นว่า ถ้าจะหนีไปเลยก็ไปได้ เพราะอยู่นอกประเทศอยู่แล้ว และอยู่เมืองนอกก็ไม่ได้ลำบาก ซึ่งการที่ตัดสินใจกลับมา ถือว่าเป็นคนที่รับผิดชอบต่อตัวท่านเอง และประชาชนที่เคารพนับถือท่าน ในสายตาตน นายทักษิณ เป็นวีรบุรุษประชาธิปไตยคนหนึ่ง

เห็นนายภูมิธรรม รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงมหาดไทย และรักษาการนายกรัฐมนตรี ออกมาให้สัมภาษณ์กรณีนายทักษิณติดคุกว่า ในความรู้สึกของเขามองว่า นายทักษิณไม่มีความผิดอะไร พูดคล้ายๆ กับว่า นายทักษิณถูกกลั่นแกล้งมาตั้งแต่สมัยถูกปฏิวัติ เมื่อครั้งนายทักษิณเป็นนายก
(ความคิดแบบนี้มันน่าจะหมายรวมไปถึงคนตระกูลชินและบริวารก็คงจะคิดเช่นนี้ด้วย ดังที่อดีตนายกอิ๊งสัมภาษณ์ก็มีนัยยะคล้ายๆ กัน)
ไม่น่าเชื่อว่า นี่คือคำพูดของคนที่ดำรงตำแหน่งรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงมหาดไทย และรักษาการนายกรัฐมนตรีของประเทศไทย พูดแบบไม่สนหน้าอินทร์หน้าพรหมเลย
ไม่สนแม้แต่หลักการของนิติรัฐ นิติธรรม
ไม่สนแม้แต่คำพิพากษาของศาลฏีกาแผนกคดีอาญาของผู้ดำรงตำแหน่งนักการเมือง
รวมทั้งไม่สนกระทั่งพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ ขององค์พระประมุขที่ทรงมี พระราชวินิจฉัย ทรงมีพระเมตตาลดโทษให้จากแปดปีที่ศาลตัดสินเหลือแค่ ๑ ปี
ไม่สนแม้กระทั่งความเสียหายที่นายทักษิณและพวกสร้างความเสียหายให้แก่ชาติและประชาชน มาในอดีตเพราะเหตุนี้ล่ะกระมัง จึงกล้าออกมาโชว์กินข้าวเน่าในโกดัง ที่เป็นผลงานของอดีตนายกปูทำผิดพลาดเอาไว้
ด้วยพฤติกรรมของนายภูมิธรรมที่ผ่านมา รวมถึงการพูดกรณีไทยกับเขมร จนถึงกรณีนายทักษิณ
คนไทยทั้งหลายควรจะตระหนักคิดได้แล้วหละกระมังว่า นายภูมิธรรมไม่ควรจักมาอาสารับใช้ประเทศชาติและประชาชนไทยเลย
นายภูมิธรรมควรจักไปคอยรับใช้นายทักษิณและคนตระกูลชินมากกว่า

Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, gave an interview regarding the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is imprisoned at Klong Prem Prison. Reporters asked whether there would be a set timeframe for visits and any discussion about who would visit. He said that no such discussion had occurred yet. However, he personally feels he would definitely visit Mr. Thaksin, because, in his view, Mr. Thaksin has done nothing wrong from the very beginning—even during what he called the manipulation of power in forming a temporary government. He added that many things remain to be tested over time.
Mr. Phumtham also stated that, in his view, Mr. Thaksin is a fighter. He said he was moved by an image of Mr. Thaksin, the day before, wearing a blue crew-neck shirt with his head shaved. He believes Mr. Thaksin has already proven that, had he wished to flee, he could have done so while abroad. His decision to return shows responsibility—to himself and to the people who respect him. In his opinion, Mr. Thaksin is a hero of democracy.
I saw Mr. Phumtham, Minister of the Interior and Acting Prime Minister, giving an interview about Mr. Thaksin’s imprisonment. He stated that he believed Mr. Thaksin had committed no wrongdoing and implied that Mr. Thaksin had been harassed since the coup, when he was still Prime Minister. (This sentiment seems to extend to the Shinawatra family and their circle, as former Prime Minister Ing’s interview also suggested.)
Unexpectedly, someone in the position of Minister of the Interior and Acting Prime Minister of Thailand would speak in such a way, without clear reference to the principles of justice, the rule of law, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions, or His Majesty the King’s reducing Mr. Thaksin’s sentence from eight years to one.
Nor did he appear to acknowledge the damage Mr. Thaksin and his associates had caused to the nation and people in the past. Perhaps this is why he felt emboldened to show off eating rotten rice in the warehouse—the disastrous rice-pledging scheme under former Prime Minister Yingluck.
Given Mr. Phumtham’s past behavior, including his comments on the Thailand–Cambodia issue and the Thaksin case, Thai people should seriously consider whether Mr. Phumtham is fit to serve the nation and the people. Perhaps he should serve Mr. Thaksin and the Shinawatra family instead.
