การสวดมนต์เป็นค่านิยมทางสังคม ที่เรารับสืบทอดวิธีการปฏิบัติที่ถูกส่งต่อมาจากคนรุ่นเก่า
แต่พระอาจารย์อยากจะให้เข้าใจว่า การสวดมนต์โดยจริงๆ แล้วเนื้อแท้ของหลักคำสอนที่มีมาในหลักคำสอนที่พระองค์ตรัสสอนมาเนี่ย ไม่มีการบัญญัติให้มีการสวดมนต์ในกิจทางศาสนาสำหรับชาวพุทธที่จะต้องปฏิบัติอย่างนั้น
พระอาจารย์ก็อยากจะแนะนำวิธีการสวดที่เป็นการสวดที่มีมาในแบบวิธีทางพระพุทธศาสนา หรือพูดง่ายๆ ว่า แบบวิธีที่พระพุทธองค์วางหลักการไว้ให้เราได้ปฏิบัติในกิจนี้ กิจของการสวดนี้ก็คือ พระอาจารย์ใช้คำว่า “การสวด”

ดูท่าคำสอนของผู้ที่อวดว่าตนเองเป็นพระโสดา นี่มันไม่มีอะไรแน่นอนเลยนะเนี่ยจารย์
สรุปแล้วเอาไงแน่จารย์ จะเลิกสวดหรือจะให้สวด
เดี๋ยวก็บอกว่า พระพุทธเจ้าไม่ได้บัญญัติให้สวด
เดี๋ยวก็สอนว่า พระพุทธเจ้าบัญญัติให้สวด
ไม่รู้ว่า ศิษย์ที่มีสมองเขาจะงงไหม

A part from a clip on “Which prayer should we chant?
Chanting a prayer is a social norm and practice, we inherited from our ancestors.
But Phra Ajarn (I) would like you to understand that in the essence of the Buddha’s teaching, the Buddha did not include praying in the practice of Buddhists.
Thus, Phra Ajarn (I) wish to recommend how to chant a prayer according to Buddhism in which the Buddha laid out a guideline for us. I use the word “chanting” for the praying activity.

Jarn, it looks like nothing is certain in the teaching of someone who claims to be a Stream-Enterer; one who has attained the first stage of holiness.
Jarn, so what? Would you recommend Buddhists chant a prayer or not?
You said the Buddha did not recommend Buddhists chant a prayer.
But then you said the Buddha gave a guideline for Buddhists to chant a prayer.
